In this hands-on course, participants will be involved in building a wind turbine from scratch. The process of building a wind turbine involves basic electricity, woodworking, metalworking, resin casting, and a variety of other skills. Through a combination of lecture and hands-on work, participants will learn the theory behind and how to build each component of the turbine, as well as final assembly and testing of the finished product.

This one-day course will focus on the fundamentals of tower climbing and safety. Participants will be educated in climbing mechanics, hazard assessment, fall protection, basic knot tying, and more. The course will conclude with a climb on a tower practicing the safety procedures and knowledge learned in class.

Participants in this two-day course will perform repairs and annual maintenance on the Midwest Renewable Energy Association wind turbines and systems. This is a working course that includes tower climbing.
