Wind Powering America 12th Annual All-States Summit Simulcast and Proceedings

The Summit followed the annual WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition and provided state Wind Working Groups, state energy officials, U.S. Energy Department and national laboratory representatives, and professional and institutional partners an opportunity to review successes, opportunities, and challenges for wind energy and plan future collaboration.

This year's Summit focused on the topic of wind energy in a troubled market. Speakers discussed how the current uncertainty in the market regarding energy costs, renewable energy policy, and climate debate is impacting the wind market and which activities and business models may help reduce the impact of this uncertainty on local wind development.

The Illinois Wind Working Group is hosting its sixth annual conference with more than 40 speakers sharing their knowledge and expertise through plenary sessions, breakout seminars, and breakout panel sessions regarding wind energy topics.

The conference is open to the public and will be of special interest to landowners interested in wind turbines or leasing their land, county board members, zoning board administrators, wind development companies, elected officials, policy makers, environmental groups, economic development officials, contractors, manufacturers, and schools and universities interested in wind energy.

Siting, Zoning, and Taxing of Wind Farms in Illinois Conference

The Illinois Wind Working Group will host its fourth Siting, Zoning, and Taxing of Wind Farms in Illinois Conference. The one-day conference will feature speaker panels to discuss wind farms topics for an audience of primarily county board members, zoning board members, government employees, and developers. Topics will include best practices of county and zoning boards, county ordinance revisions, roads, school district taxation, property value guarantees, and decommissioning. A Wind Energy 101 pre-session is also offered for those new to wind farm projects, providing a general overview and discussion on economic impacts, anticipated trends, wildlife issues, and sound and setback requirements.

Wind Powering America State Summit Proceedings

The Summit provided Wind Powering America's (WPA's) network of state wind working groups, state energy officials, DOE and national lab WPA representatives and its professional and institutional partners an opportunity to review successes, opportunities and challenges for wind at the state level. Participants shared strategies/lessons learned, reviewed priority activities/topics, and celebrated and recognized accomplishments among peers. The Summit featured plenary sessions, regional and state breakouts, and smaller group discussions on focused issues, as well as presentations and remarks from invited national guest speakers. Summit participants included leaders of Wind Powering America's state wind working groups, institutional partners, wind industry experts, and DOE and National Laboratory staff. Advancing Wind Power in Illinois

Sessions covered "how to's," policy recommendations, case studies, and more. The conference is now over, however, you can see a gallery of speakers from this year's conference and will soon be able to sign up to get more information on next year's conference.

Illinois Wind Workshop

The Workshop provided an overview of wind power technology, Illinois wind resources, technical and policy issues, sustainable economic development opportunities, large and small wind project development, panel session with landowners, and next steps for Illinois wind energy stakeholders. Two hundred attendees were expected including utility and power supplier representatives, landowners, wind energy project developers, city, state and federal officials, and other interested stakeholders.
