Creating an Offshore Wind Industry in the United States: A National Vision and Call to Action Webinar

Date: 9/16/2010

In fiscal year 2011, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will initiate a formal Offshore Wind Program to promote and accelerate responsible commercial offshore wind development in the United States. During the Webinar, "Creating an Offshore Wind Industry in the United States: A National Vision and Call to Action," the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Wind and Water Power Program outlined its vision to guide the United States in creating a world-leading offshore wind industry. A "world leading offshore wind industry in the United States" will achieve 54 gigawatts of offshore wind deployment at a cost of 7-9 cents per kilowatt-hour by the year 2030, with an interim target of 10 gigawatts at 13 cents per kilowatt-hour by 2020. In addition to this Webinar, two in-person seminars took place September 21 and September 28.

This Webinar also issued a call to action for the nation's resources to mobilize and harmonize in addressing the substantial barriers to offshore wind deployment.
