Virginia State-Based Anemometer Loan Program
Wind Powering America, in early 2001, requested proposals from State Energy Offices in the Mid-Atlantic region to administer the the new state-based Anemometer Loan Program. The state of Virginia was selected and is now administering the program. Ten anemometers were delivered to James Madison University, which provide technical support for the project. The purpose of the Anemometer Loan Program is to help facilitate the development of widely distributed wind expertise throughout the nation, help Virginia and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory gather data (which could easily complement any wind mapping effort), and act as a Wind Powering America deployment tool to spur the development of the nation's wind resources. In addition to this effort, the (then) Philadelphia Regional Office loaned two anemometers to two National Park Service sites in Sandy Hook, New Jersey and Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, New York.
